Meinert, Lance Corporal Jacob Alexander
Lance Corporal Jacob Alexander Meinert USMC was killed in action January 10, 2010 in Bastion, Afghanistan.
He was born June 24, 1989 in Racine, WI. He attended Red Apple Elementary School and Jerstad Agerholm Middle School in Racine before moving to Fort Atkinson. Jacob graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in 2007. He entered the Marine Corps Recruitment Depot in San Diego, California graduating with platoon 2167. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force based at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. Jacob completed one tour of duty in Iraq and was currently serving a tour of duty in Afghanistan. His hobbies included fishing, sailing, and a variety of musical outlets. He enjoyed the time spent with his friends.

He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1660 Endl Blvd, Fort Atkinson, WI with full Military Honors. Family and friends may pay their respects at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm.

I was Jacobs Platoon Sergeant. Jacob was a unique individual and he touched the lives of all of third platoon. He is missed by us all. We have put up his picture in one of the hall ways here at the base, and everytime one of us passes it, we touch it. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

My deepest condolences to the Meinert family for loss of Jacob Meinert. He will never be forgoten.
My fondest memories are when I surprised him at his surprise birthday party and which made that much better is when he gave me a surprise birthday party right back at me. I can’t forget his face when I surprised him and he surprised me. I also remember the time when we both were in the Jerstad-Agerholm Middle School Band together.
