Wagie, Walter “Butch”-April 10, 2010

WalterWagieWalter “Butch” WAGIE, age 88, passed away at Fairhaven Retirement Community on April 10, 2010 in Whitewater, WI surrounded by his family.

Walter was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 20, 1921, the son of the late John and Bertha (Messerschmidt) Wagie. Walter married Jean Ebert on October 27, 1945 in Whitewater, Wisconsin. Jean preceded him in death on May 10, 1994.

Walter was a lifelong farmer in the Whitewater area with the majority of the years spent working for the Romey Estate. He was a member of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Saint Patrick’s church choir, the Knights of Columbus, Friday night and then Seniors bowling leagues, and the Friends of Fairhaven Relay for Life team.

Walter was strong in his faith, and was a devoted husband. His family was the most important thing in his life. He was a fun and playful father and grandfather who had a mischievious twinkle in his eye and will be deeply missed by not only his family but all who knew him.

Walter is survived by his children: Joan, Janesville, WI, Dorothy (Stan) Waga, Racine, WI, Eileen (Fred) Laatsch, Port Edwards, WI, Mary (Russ) Rogers, Whitewater, WI, Bill (Jane) Wagie, Fort Atkinson, WI, and Betty (Dave) Schelb, Fort Atkinson, WI, 18 Grandchildren: LaVonne Brown, Corrine Waga, Eric (Kris) Waga, Dan Laatsch, Christa (Chris) Thalacker, Tammy Siltanen, Kola Laatsch, Lexi Ellis, Jessie (Ryan) Fish, Don Laatsch, Mariah Laatsch, Jeremy Rogers, Ryan Rogers, Marissa (Chris) Erickson, Robbie Wagie, Randy Wagie, Heather (David) Neustadt, and Ryan (Jessica) Schelb, Eleven Great-grandchildren, Sister: Esther Sarozek, Brothers: John, Eugene, and Fred Wagie, and Sisters-in-Law: Ann Zabel and Doris Tenpenny. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends..

Walter was preceded in death by his wife and parents, his granddaughters Stacie Rogers and Nicole Wagie, sister Ruth Stepke, brothers Carl and Art Wagie, Brothers-in-law: John, Dick and Don Ebert, and sisters-in-law: Betty Koepke, Kay Wagie, and Pat Pomplun.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2010, at 11:00AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Whitewater, Wisconsin with Father Rafael Rodriguez celebrating. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, in Whitewater, Wisconsin.

Friends may call from 4-7PM on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at the Nitardy Funeral Home, Whitewater and after 10AM on Thursday at the church until Mass.

    We are very sorry for the loss of your father. I have fond memories of Uncle Butch.

    I wish I could be at the funeral, but I have to work both days. You all are in our thoughts and prayers at this sad time.
